— Why Balancewright

What to Expect at the Bench

Six points that distinguish how work is handled here from how it is commonly handled elsewhere.

Written Record on Every Job

Each piece leaves with a note recording test pressures reached, parts fitted, and any readings outside tolerance. Not a summary — a specific record for that watch.

Diagnosis Before Replacement

Current draw is checked on quartz movements so an early-draining cell is identified. A new cell fitted over a failing circuit is not a repair.

Pressure Testing Included

Dry pressure testing and condensation checks are part of the seal renewal service, not an optional add-on. The result is recorded and handed over.

Complication Work Done In-House

Chronograph modules, date mechanisms, moon phase and power reserve complications are handled at the same bench. Work is not subcontracted out.

Predictable Timelines

Battery and seal work is completed in three to five working days. Complication servicing takes fourteen to twenty-one. Both are communicated at drop-off, not estimated after the fact.

Annual Programme for Collections

Owners of six or more mechanical pieces can arrange scheduled annual care with collection and return included within Penang Island and Seberang Perai.

Frequently Asked

Do I need to book an appointment to drop off a watch?
Walk-ins are welcome during workshop hours. A brief call or email beforehand is helpful for complication service pieces so bench time can be allocated, but it is not a requirement for battery and seal work.
What information should I have ready when I enquire?
The brand and model, calibre reference if known, the observed issue, and whether the piece has been previously opened or repaired elsewhere. This allows a more specific response and helps estimate bench time accurately.
What does the water resistance test involve?
A dry pressure test applies air pressure to the case and monitors for leakage. This is done after gasket renewal. A condensation check follows. The pressure reached and any out-of-tolerance findings are noted in the written record issued with the watch.
Are prices fixed or are they estimates?
The listed prices (RM 480 for battery and seal; RM 2,150 for complication service; RM 4,600 per year for the collection programme) cover the defined scope. If work outside that scope is found to be necessary — a worn crown tube, for instance — this is quoted separately before proceeding.
How does the Collection Care Programme work for a first-time client?
An initial inspection covers all pieces in the collection. Service histories, calibre references, and current condition notes are entered into the programme record. A schedule is then set for the two annual inspections. Pieces joining mid-year are included on a pro-rated basis, confirmed in writing.
Can you service watches from outside Malaysia?
The workshop accepts pieces sent by courier from within Malaysia. Courier charges and any customs requirements are the sender's responsibility. Collection and return within Penang and Seberang Perai is handled directly as part of the Collection Care Programme.
What calibre families do you handle for complication work?
Recent calibre families handled include ETA Valjoux 7750, Sellita SW500, ETA 2836 and 2824, Miyota 9015 and 8215, and Seiko NH35 and NH38. For other calibres, send the reference and we will confirm whether it falls within current bench scope.
